HISTORY: The Mill is a multi-stage, abstract strategy game from Rome. With origins dating back to 600 BCE, The Mill pre-dates The Roman Empire, every Caesar, The Roman Republic, and even King Servius. The Mill spread in popularity through much of Europe and enjoyed many names throughout the centuries, including: 9 Men's Morris, and Merrills. Legend holds that English noblemen played The Mill as a lawn game, using servants as pieces. Shakespeare made a casual reference to the game in A Midsummer's Night Dream (written in the mid to late 1590's), around the time of The Mill's decent from popularity. Carvings of the board have been found all across Europe and Africa: from cloisters in Britain to temples in Egypt.
The Mill is presented in a suede leather pouch that unfolds to reveal a beautifully etched game board and luxury playing pieces. The rule booklet is made of an extremely durable composite paper laced onto the satin drawstring.
